The short answer: Nichia for color-critical work, not for every job

If you need accurate skin tones, fabric texture, or beam quality in a small package, Nichia high-CRI LEDs, especially the 519A family, are worth the premium. Also, UV and laser LEDs have real safety requirements. Do not treat a Nichia UV LED like a visible-light LED. According to safety standards like IEC 62471, you need proper eye and skin protection, housing, and warnings. I have seen rush orders where the customer did not realize UV LEDs require different handling. That is not a Nichia problem; that is an application problem.

Bottom line: use Nichia when color accuracy, bin consistency, or small-package performance is the thing your customer will notice. For everything else, save the premium and spend it on better optics or thermal design. And always verify current specs and pricing with Nichia or an authorized distributor, because datasheets and bins change.
